Why GSM is important when buying Patient Gowns, Hospital Linen, and Towels?

The GSM of fabric is one type of specification that is crucial for a textile engineer to understand and produce high-quality fabric. ‘GSM’ means ‘Grams per Square Meter,’ which refers to the weight of fabric in grams per square meter.  By this, we can compare the fabrics in the unit area to determine which ones are heavier and which are lighter.

For measuring GSM, a GSM cutter is used to cut the fabric, and the weight is calculated using a balance. Both of these measurements and methods are equally used for both woven and knitted fabrics.

GSM = Fabric Weight (in Grams) / Length (in m2)

Let's suppose … The Width is 50 cm, the Length is 80 cm, Weight is 215 g

GSM = 215 (0.5 * 0.8) = 538 g / m2

The GSM of the fabric varies with the yarn count.
