The burnisher is a versatile tool used for smoothing amalgam after condensing and contouring matrix bands before amalgam placement. Available in both single and double-ended varieties and various shapes and sizes, this instrument is essential for achieving optimal results.

Burnishers are mostly used for:

• Normally used at the end of the treatment to smooth and polish a filled tooth.
• Emphasis on grooves or removal of excess filling material on the surface of the tooth.
