Pinard Fetal Stethoscope

Commonly referred to as the Pinard Horn, it is a specialized stethoscope used to detect the heartbeat of a developing fetus.

An 8-inch hollow horn-shaped stethoscope must be pressed against the stomach to hear the fetal heartbeat. It is known for its precision, as it must be placed close to the heart. While the Doppler Fetal Monitor is often the preferred choice in the United States, it may pick up tones further from the heart and, therefore, be less accurate. 

In Europe, doctors, nurses, and midwives prefer the Pinard Horn to the Doppler device. It is cost-effective and safer, making it a practical choice.
