Pinard Fetoscope

Commonly referred to as the Pinard Horn, is a specialized stethoscope used to detect the heartbeat of a developing fetus.

It is an 8-inch hollow horn-shaped stethoscope that must be pressed against the stomach to hear the fetal heartbeat. It is known for its precision, as it must be placed close to the heart. While the Doppler Fetal Monitor is often the preferred choice in the United States, it may pick up tones that are further from the heart and therefore, less accurate. 

The Pinard Horn is a preferred alternative to the Doppler device in Europe for doctors, nurses, and midwives. It is cost-effective and safer, making it a practical choice.
